Reference & Sketches

After consulting with Mr. Fauzi about the sketch, I decided to go with sketch 2. I also found some poster and images I can use as references on Pinterest.

Poster Design

Firstly, I open up a new file with a size of 210 x 297 mm on Photoshop. Before anything else, I add grids as a guide to make the placement of texts and images tidier. Next, I add the title of the painting and the bible verse under the title as long as the two lines to separate the title and the image below. Then, I add strokes on each of the image to create a frame outside of the images.

The next thing I do is to to add threshold to all of the image and add the bible verse between the full painting and the closeups. I also added objects related to the last supper in between the closeups to further reference the painting and the crucifixion. Finally, I added a brief description of the painting on the bottom of the poster.

Here is the finished poster.

Fig. 2.5, Final artwork

In this poster, I used images from The Last Supper painting and applied noise and threshold filter to achieve the grungy poster look while also trying to make subtle information and references for people to understand the meaning behind the painting easier. I also decided to highlight some of my favorite parts of the painting under the edited artwork.

I added a few text describing the painting and also a Bible verse that describes the situation in the painting under the image. The big title is put on top of the poster to achieve visual hierarchy. Then, I put objects relating to the last supper and Jesus crucifixion in between the frames on the bottom images. The chalice references the Holy Chalice used by Jesus during the last supper, meanwhile the cross in the middle represents the crucifixion Jesus went through the day after. The spear head on the left is the Holy Lance of Longinus which was used to stab Jesus to confirm His death. Lastly, the crown of thorns on top of the painting was the crown worn by Jesus during his crucifixion.

Judas is highlighted with the color red to contrast himself from the rest of the poster since he is the one who betrays his teacher. By doing this, I made him the one who stands out most in this poster. I also made sure to put all of the frames and images to align with each other horizontally and vertically to achieve symmetrical balance. However, the objects in between the frames are purposedly placed messy, so in the end, the poster applied the rule of  approximate symmetry.

Revised Poster

Week 5

After doing further consultation with Mr. Fauzi, I was told that my work is nice already. However, I can do a lot better by do some adjustments by adding more information on the poster. So I decided to remove the bottom text and change it to short descriptions of the selected apostles.

Fig. 2.6, Revised Poster

I decided to remove the bottom text and change it to short descriptions of the selected apostles. Numbers were also added to mark the apostles on the painting.

Week 6

Mr. Fauzi asked me to make the numbers on the close ups to be more readable. So I arranged the numbers like the numbers on playing cards.

FEEDBACK

Week 5

Connect the image above and the 4 images below with numbers to provide bigger information. Mr. Fauzi also told me to add short description to explain in details the figures below.

Week 6

The numbers on the 4 close shots of the apostle can be arranged better.
