My 3 Favorite Graphic Design Works

1. Design 1

Description: A brutalism style poster I find quite astonishing.

This Poster expressed: I love how the designer only used black, white and red which is very minimalistic in color, but it definitely helps on the composition of the poster. The lack of color variety combined with a bright red makes the viewers focus on parts which the designer intended the viewers to pay attention to (hands and bullet points). Furthermore, the minor details such as the typography and the elements behind the character makes the poster even captivating.

2. Design 2

Fig. 2.2, Source: https://id.pinterest.com/pin/808959151849491595/

Description: I find this image of a woman’s face taped on a smartphone interesting.

This Poster expressed: It conveys a message of how humans can easily get addicted to their phones. People sometimes forget that they are using their phones too frequently, resulting in them being obsessed with their phones, ignoring their surroundings which explains why we can not see the model’s face in the photo above.

Then, the charging cable surrounding the model’s neck can be interpreted as a role switch up between the phone and the user. The role of humans, usually being  the one controlling their phones, has been reversed, meaning that now it is the phone that controls the user’s life.

3. Design 3

Fig. 2.3, Source: https://id.pinterest.com/pin/26388347811529924/

Description: After scrolling through Pinterest for a couple of hours, I found a “movie poster” themed music poster from a band I am really fond of.

This Poster expressed: This design is about one of the lyrics from the song Caraphernelia by Pierce The Veil which is basically a song about the vocalist’ ex-girlfriend that left some of her belongings in his house, resulting in him thinking about his ex every time he looks at her left items, hence the lyrics “what if I can’t forget you?”.

Moreover, the bleeding heart in the middle was added to emphasize the writer’s feeling of anger and sadness. I really like this poster because of how dramatic the design is, the almost scattered text of the song title, Caraphernelia also helps with the chaotic nature of this poster.

REFLECTIONS

I have always been a big fan of  posters since I was still a little child, because I really enjoy decorating my room with prints and posters that I find intriguing. However, this task has made me realize that posters. Posters are not just some awesome looking prints that you can put on your wall. They have a deeper meaning behind their designs, even though sometimes they are just that. This task has definitely made me appreciate designing more and learn to put more effort and add meaning behind the designs I made, since i used to make graphic posters for fun before.
