REFLECTIVE WRITING

Experience

At first, typography looked very simple to learn, because I thought working with letters and fonts are very easy. Turns out, it was one of the most stressful subject to keep up with in the first few weeks. But it helped me understand a lot on how to use Illustrator and InDesign. The projects we have worked on are actually quite easy to follow since we have feedbacks from Ms. Vitiyaa, lectures, and weekly update on what we have to work posted by Mr. Vinod on Microsoft Teams. In the end, I was able to finish all of my assignments on time and overall it has been very informative and enriching experience.

Observations

I noticed that typography is more complex than I thought. Different types can affect the whole aesthetic and vibe of a design. Also, I think that everyone seems to overlook the detail and subtle adjustments designers have put to a type or a letter such as how some letters are adjusted to make a more comfortable reading experience. Which is why, I appreciate typography more than I used to.

Findings

Typography made me learn a lot of things. I learned how to bring text come to life on exercise 1 by altering and matching the shapes to the context on Illustrator. I learned ways to adjust a type and text to make easier for people to read when I'm adjusting texts on InDesign. I also learned how to make fonts and letters by combining shapes and merging them with pre-existing shapes I have already made before. Now, I found even a slight adjustment can make a lot of difference, which I need to pay attention to.
