    INSTRUCTIONS

    TASK

    Exercise 3: Kinetic Typography (10%)

In short, the song I chose lost the vote count. The song with the most votes ended up being The Weekend by BIBI. Before starting to work on the kinetic typography animation, we did a short briefing on which part we are going to do. We also decided on the overall theme of the animation. I chose to work on the chorus since chorus is usually the most memorable part of a song.

To begin, I tried messing with camera movements on the first 2 line of the chorus.

Then I added more movements by using null objects to direct the camera to different angles. I also added hanging telephones to reference the original music video.

Then I added more movements by using more null objects and cameras on the second part.

    Fig. 3.2, Second part

The last part is quite simple, I used an image of a figure falling to match the "falling into the deep end" lyrics by using transform and make it look as the figure is falling.

    Fig. 3.3, Third part

For the repeating parts, I just reused the first line over and over. Here is how it turned out

    Motion Graphic Animation Chart

I got the bar chart. To begin, I started by using pen tool and make a straight line from top to bottom. Then I added trim paths on the bar to make a popping animation.

Next, I copied the bar 5 times. I adjusted the length according to the original data. I also make sure theres a delay between bars.

Then, I added numbers and details of the bars after. Here is the final result.

    Vector/ Character Animation

First, I separate all the layers on illustrator.

Then I went to after effects to start working on the animation.

I added keyframes and motion blur for the parts I want to animate.

    Here is the final result.

    REFLECTIONS

This project helped me realize that motion graphics is not just about movement, but about timing and meaning. When my chosen song lost and we had to use The Weekend by BIBI, I had to quickly adapt to a different vibe. I chose the chorus because it is the most memorable part, and I experimented with camera movements and null objects to create more dynamic angles. Adding the hanging telephones helped connect the animation to the original music video. The falling figure for the “deep end” lyric was simple but effective. For the bar chart animation, I learned how trim paths and small delays can make basic shapes feel more engaging. Overall, this task improved my technical control and helped me understand how motion can enhance both storytelling and information design.
